  • It is nice to be home with Chae for a long weekend!  We both aged about 5 years over the past 2-3 hours during the Alabama-Auburn game.  Holy cow!  Alabama barely pulled out a win, saving the unbeaten season.  Obviously, Auburn came to play, and I have to hand it to Coach Chizik.  I think he is good for that program.  Next weekend, Alabama plays Florida for the SEC title.  Uphill battle, but somebody has to beat Florida eventually.  Might as well be Bama.

Chae and I are still trying to believe that we are going to be grandparents.  We are trying out grandparent names.  The kids wanted Chae to be Grumpy, but he didn’t think it was funny.  In fact, he was downright grumpy about it….ha ha.  I think we might have decided on Grandpa and Gramma, and, of course, the baby will decide how he/she wants to pronounce them.  I looked for ideas online, and one family called the grandparents Bama and Bapa.  I am pretty sure that Josh will veto calling either one of us Bama…..

  • The Best Thanksgiving EVER!!!

A BABY!!!!!  This is the best Thanksgiving ever!  Yesterday, I was forbidden to post our wonderful news on the blog until others were notified.  However, today, the world can know.  Ann and Josh gave us a Thanksgiving present – a framed photo of the ultrasound of our first grandchild!  I cried, I laughed, I am still in shock!  The baby (gender to remain a surprise for everyone) is due July 1.  I am beyond excited (but still in shock and trying to process the news that I had decided might never come).  Ann and Josh are having fun coming up with red-neck names and 4th of July names, like “Firecracker.”  Chae and I are searching for the perfect Grandparent names, so we are open to suggestions.  Anyway, I just can’t even think about anything else right now!  Happy, thankful, amazed, excited.

  • I am quite pleased with myself!  Yesterday, I got some kind of nasty virus on my work computer.  It was a pop-up that tried to get me to download a virus removal program, asking for my credit card information, etc.  Uh…NO!  Anyway, I was able to get it fixed all by myself today!  System Restore back two weeks, then a virus scan with my real program – caught 2 viruses and deleted them.  It’s sort of funny, though, because my home computer isn’t wanting to connect to the internet.  Sometimes it is stubborn like that.  No virus, just no connectivity!  Thus the late posting.

Other than cooking turkey and ham, I’m ready for tomorrow!  Can’t wait for the yummy food and having the kids and Mom here.  Harry, Sue, and Marissa headed up to Tennessee today to be with Molly’s family.  I think Harry is going to survive whatever bug he has (it isn’t H1N1), but it isn’t fun to be sick during the holidays!

Cady and Nellie are here in Claudia’s space.  The first thing she did was scarf down all of Cady’s dinner!  Claudia gets fed her big meal in the mornings, then gets a few scraps at dinner.  Cady and Nellie are fed morning and early evening because of Nellie’s diabetes, so Claudia took advantage of dinner time for the guests!

  • I was all alone at the office today.  Josh took a much needed day off, and Harry is still sick.  He thinks he may have H1N1 flu, and if so, he needs to stay away from us!!!!  And rest!!!  Chae is in Houston, so Claudia and I are home alone tonight.  Things will start getting crazy tomorrow, though.  Ann and Josh will be here with Cady and Nellie (much to Claudia’s dismay), and C.J. will be here tomorrow night (much to Claudia’s happiness).

For those of you who are confused about the mammography guidelines, here is a link to a good explanation.  It was produced by Baptist Health System in Montgomery, Alabama, and I think they did quite a good job:

When I got home this afternoon, there was a box of flowers on the front porch.  They were from Erin and Matt, with a sweet note about how much they appreciate my support!   Erin, Matt, and their entire family are on their traditional Thanksgiving week family trip, and they won’t be home until Saturday.  I sent Erin’s care package via UPS to Dave’s house.   I didn’t want it to sit on her doorstep for several days, so Dave will make sure she gets it before Monday.  I know this trip is bittersweet for Erin.  She was so looking forward to it, but I also know that the upcoming chemotherapy on the 30th doesn’t leave her mind for long.  I will have similar issues while we are having fun in Canada – trying not to think about the CT scan on December 7.  I hate cancer.

  • Poor Harry is sick as a dog!  He called in this morning, and he sounded like he is on the Train to Glory, for sure!  I think he realized that Josh and I would finish him off if he dared show his face at the office, so he stayed home!  I had bought a cute little outfit for Marissa, so I drove it by his house and hung the shopping bag on the plant hook in the front yard.   Then I called him and said that I had left the bag on the “cootie hook,” and he could come outside and get it.  I do NOT want to get sick before Thanksgiving and our trip to Canada.

Ellen and I met with the folks from Alabama Department of Public Health today.  Because of our Komen Affiliate’s funding, since 2002, ADPH has been able to diagnose 229 women, age 50 and younger!  Otherwise, these women would have been diagnosed at a much later stage with much poorer prognosis.   We have funded thousands of mammograms.  That is something we need to be proud of!
